The grove was initially planted in 2011, but faced mortality from a freeze that winter. The survivors and individuals planted in 2013 and 2014 make up the 20 trees in the grove today and are all in generally good health. 50% of the trees bloomed and produced fruit with varying yields (details below) but the specific dates of occurence were not observed or recorded.
Arbequina (4): High yield
Chemlali (1): High yield
Mission (1): Low yield
Manzanillo (2): Low yield
Ascolano (1): Very low yield (only one fruit as of 8/31/2018)
Unidentified (1): Low-med yield - This individual was labeled an Arbequina but is believed to be mislabeled as the fruits and leaf characteristics looked much more like a mission.
2018 was the first year that Manzanilla, Mission, and Ascolano produced fruit.
Rainfall was the only source of water for the grove, as the previous irrigation system was damaged during freeze in January, 2018 and has not been replaced. Was previously a drip system with micro-jets. The grove is managed passively and is generally in good health. Most of the trees including those planted in 2011 and 2013 were purchased from "Just Fruits & Exotics", which is also the source they derived information from on how to make an oil press and brine fruits. Managers reported that they would like to allocate more time and effort into managing the grove, but lack the required resources ($).
